In 2023, Folkroom Inc. received an extraordinary opportunity to curate a one-of-a-kind cultural performance at the prestigious Indian Supreme Court. The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) Chairperson invited our team to conceptualize and execute a performance that would showcase the rich diversity of India’s cultural heritage in a single act. This special event was organized for delegates attending the Legal Aid Program on November 27, 2023, marking the first-ever cultural performance on the Supreme Court lawns—a historic moment for Indian arts and traditions.
Crafting a Vision: One India, One Stage
Our creative journey began with the idea of blending multiple art forms seamlessly, creating an immersive experience that represented the essence of India. The performance was meticulously designed to take the audience on a journey across the country through music and dance.
The act opened with Farid Hasan, a renowned North Indian classical vocalist, whose soulful rendition of ragas set the perfect tone. Farid Hasan, known for his contribution to Amazon Prime’s hit web series Bandish Bandits, captivated the audience with his mesmerizing voice.
Following this, the stage came alive with the grace and precision of Chitra Dalvi, a Bharatnatyam dancer, whose performance symbolized the vibrancy of South Indian traditions. She was soon joined by Nidhi Prabhu, a Kathak exponent, adding rhythmic footwork and storytelling through dance.
The performance then transitioned to the heart of Rajasthan with an enthralling Rajasthani vocal act, complemented by the elegance of Ghoomar dance and the mesmerizing fluidity of Kalbeliya dance. The finale brought in the electrifying energy of Punjab with a powerful Bhangra performance, adding a burst of color and celebration to the stage.
All these performances were woven together, seamlessly running in harmony, creating an awe-inspiring spectacle that was exclusively conceptualized and directed by Folkroom Inc.
A Historic Moment in the Presence of Legal Luminaries
The act was not only a visual and musical treat but also a monumental cultural milestone, being the first of its kind at the Indian Supreme Court. Our performance received immense appreciation from some of the most esteemed dignitaries in the country:
- Arjun Ram Meghwal – Indian Law Minister
- Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud
- Justice Sanjay Krishan Kaul
- NALSA Secretary Santosh Snehi Maan
Their words of praise and encouragement reinforced our commitment to promoting Indian folk arts on global platforms.
A Celebration of Art, Culture, and Victory
Following the event, we celebrated this remarkable achievement with our incredible team of artists, acknowledging their dedication and passion that made this moment possible. It was not just a performance—it was a proud representation of India’s cultural wealth at the highest judicial institution of the country.
At Folkroom Inc., we take immense pride in using art as a medium to showcase the soul of India. This event with NALSA and the Supreme Court has been a defining chapter in our journey, and we remain committed to bringing authentic Indian folk and classical performances to the world.
